How good texts are created

Bohnenkamp Foundation invites to writing workshop with travel writer Dennis Gastmann

Osnabrück, April 5, 2018

Living a different life. Going on a journey with your imagination. Understanding reality: Everything is possible in texts. How good texts are created is taught by "Königsblau - the writing workshop of the Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation." "We invite people between the ages of 15 and 100 who feel like trying their hand at writing," says Michael Prior, the managing director of the Bohnenkamp Foundation. The foundation was able to secure travel writer Dennis Gastmann as the main speaker: "It's an honor for me to lead this writing workshop. Writing is my life, and if we can inspire and excite other writers with 'Königsblau,' I'm very happy. Who knows, maybe we'll discover some great talent?".

The writing workshop is like a little time out: participants will stay at Hotel Walhalla, Osnabrück, during the fall vacations from Monday, October 8, to Thursday, October 11, 2018. Here, for four days, they will receive impulses for writing good texts - from the initial idea to deepening a topic to the appropriate genre. There will also be time for writing, of course, and anyone who wants to can do so in royal blue ink. The costs of the event are borne by the Bohnenkamp Foundation.

The theme for 2018 is: Going on a journey. In the direct and figurative sense. Here, participants can give free rein to their imagination. At a first meeting a few weeks before the writing workshop, they will get to know each other and receive initial impulses for finding a topic.

Applications are open until May 31, 2018 by mail or email to the Bohnenkamp Foundation. The following information is required: Name and age, plus a sample text (maximum 400 words) and a text on motivation (maximum 200 words). These texts should not be related to the theme of the year.

A jury will select the participants by June 21, 2018. All applicants will be informed afterwards.

The Bohnenkamp Foundation is offering such an event for the first time and plans to repeat it annually. "The special appeal also lies in the cross-generational exchange on the topic that the writing workshop offers," says Michael Prior. The texts developed during the writing workshop will be printed in a publication, and the foundation will also invite people to a public reading of selected texts.
