Help for the helpers

Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation supports young people in voluntary services abroad

Osnabrück, March 16, 2023

Young people get involved in voluntary services for the good of our global society. In doing so, they help directly on site and can also develop themselves, which is why the Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation supports this work. Up to ten young people from the Osnabrück region will be supported in 2023 in implementing their voluntary service abroad.

IJFD - behind a cryptic abbreviation hides voluntary engagement of young people all over the world. The framework for this work is provided by the International Youth Volunteer Service (IJFD). Whether in the social, cultural or ecological field - the areas of operation for the "volunteers" are as diverse as the countries to which they set out. The service for our world society offers a lot, not only for those who are helped: Volunteers can gain valuable experience, acquire social skills, learn new languages.

The Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation therefore supports young people from the Osnabrück region in their voluntary service. Ten times up to 1500 € are available to support the financing of the necessary grant, which must be raised by the participants themselves. In cooperation with sending organizations such as weltwärts(www.weltwaerts.de), young people can identify a task and a goal, plan their deployment and set off for their deployment location with financial help from the federal government and private funds.

"Volunteer service gives young people the chance to promote togetherness in our world - to lend a hand themselves where help is needed and to grow as a person in the process," says Michael Prior, spokesman for the board of the Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation. "We want to support this valuable work for themselves, but also for the greater whole."

Interested young people up to and including the age of 27 can contact the Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation (Klaus-Strick-Weg 28, 49082 Osnabrück, gewicke@bohnenkamp-stiftung.de) with an application that includes a CV and a letter of motivation. Funding is limited to volunteer services by adults that begin in 2023. The responsible contact person is Uta Gewicke, officer at the Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation.
