Into the future with a Löwencello

Neue Hofkapelle Osnabrück founds support association FAMOS e.V. - Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation donates musical instrument and 151,000 euros

Osnabrück, November 17, 2021

An elegantly designed lion's head sits enthroned on the slender neck of the cello, which is in the hands of Christian Heinecke and Michael Prior. Heinecke, founder and director of the Neue Hofkapelle Osnabrück, and Prior, spokesman for the board of the Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation, present the instrument, which will become the property of the Neue Hofkapelle Osnabrück as a donation. The Neue Hofkapelle will also receive 151,000 euros to mark the launch of its new sponsoring association, FAMOS e.V. (Förder*innen alter Musik Osnabrück).

Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi - the Neue Hofkapelle Osnabrück is fully committed to Baroque music. It presents its sound worlds on historical instruments such as the lion-headed cello. In doing so, the professional ensemble not only turns to the well-known composers, but also presents the Osnabrück audience with those who have been unjustly forgotten - Brescianello, Ehrlebach, Valentini. Since its founding in 2015, the Neue Hofkapelle has offered an insight into the diversity and richness of the Baroque. With the help of financial support from the Bohnenkamp Foundation amounting to around 300,000 euros, it has been possible to realize an ambitious program since 2017. "The Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation is delighted that it has been able to accompany and support the path of the Neue Hofkapelle to the public so successfully," says Michael Prior. In the summer of 2022, this path is to culminate in a performance of Bach's "Brandenburg Concertos".

Bohnenkamp Foundation donates "Löwencello" and 151,000 euros to FAMOS e.V.

For the time thereafter, the Neue Hofkapelle and the Bohnenkamp Foundation jointly set the course: The Foundation is already donating the "Löwencello" as the trademark of the Neue Hofkapelle and the already pledged funding sums to the newly founded support association "FAMOS e.V." This association will begin its work immediately and will enable anyone to support the work of the Neue Hofkapelle directly or by paying a membership fee of 60 euros per year. "The establishment of the Neue Hofkapelle Osnabrück with its own concert series in Osnabrück Castle would not have been possible without the special commitment of the Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation," says Christian Heinecke. "We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Bohnenkamp Foundation for this support."

Concert on November 20 and 21: Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" in the castle auditorium

At the end of November, the lion-headed cello is already back in concert. In the auditorium of Osnabrück Castle, the Neue Hofkapelle will present Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" - the soloist for the concerts will be Mayumi Hirasaki, concertmaster of Concerto Köln and professor of baroque violin at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Advance sales for both concerts are underway. Tickets can be purchased at the Tourist Information Osnabrück (Tel. 0541-323-2202) and at the box office. The event will take place under consideration of the 2G rule.

Information about the Neue Hofkapelle:

The Neue Hofkapelle Osnabrück was founded by Christian Heinecke and other professional musicians from Osnabrück and the surrounding area in 2015. All were united by the desire to play music from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, which often plays only a minor role in the life of a professional musician at a theater or in a symphony orchestra. The Neue Hofkapelle Osnabrück plays on period instruments, is self-governing, and programs are made in consultation with all members.
