Diesterweg

Scholarship

Educational scholarship

for the whole family

As the first educational scholarship for the whole family, the Diesterweg Scholarship brings together fourth-graders and their parents in a region and gives children and parents the opportunity to discover skills and develop their own potential. The scholarship helps to bridge the gap between elementary school and secondary school in a positive way and aims to ensure retention in the chosen educational pathway. During the two-year project, children and parents experience new educational locations and learning objects, bravely face challenges and forge new relationships.

Diesterweg Scholarship

Bohnenkamp Foundation implements it in Osnabrück

The transition from elementary school to secondary school is formative for children's future educational careers. At the same time, it places high demands on them: For a successful transition, both the children themselves and their parents need professional and personal skills that they do not always have as a matter of course.

Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation implements the scholarship in Osnabrück

The Diesterweg Scholarship, which is being implemented in the city of Osnabrück as an operational project of the Friedel & Gisela Bohnenkamp Foundation, addresses precisely this issue: It is aimed at children who are unable to reach their full potential. Not only the child, but the whole family is supported. The families are supported for two years during the child's transition from primary to secondary school. The support includes children's academies on topics such as science, music, language, literature, theater and art.

Support for the children - and the parents

The children explore Osnabrück and its surroundings and attend vacation courses. There is also financial support for the purchase of educational materials. At the same time, parents who are unable to provide their children with sufficient support for language or family reasons are supported: They take part in parent academies. There, they receive a wide range of educational incentives, are strengthened in their role of supporting their children's education and are introduced to their opportunities for participation both inside and outside of school. The goals: To enable children with good performance potential to pursue a school career in line with their talents, which could otherwise be jeopardized by linguistic or other extracurricular reasons, to encourage parents to be active educational guides for their children and to take advantage of their opportunities to participate.

The target group

Children in primary school year 4 with recognizable talent potential, whereby language support is not an obstacle, parents who want to better support their children on their educational path and need and want advice, children and their parents whose place of residence and school is the city of Osnabrück. The selection is made on the recommendation of the schools.
